Kids working in Pattaya Gogo Bar

In recent weeks the Bangkok Police have been keeping a close eye on Bangkok’s Gogo Bars enforcing strict closing times, checking liquor licenses and checking the bars are not employing anyone they shouldn’t be.

The Pattaya Police must have been given the same memo as last week they raided Amethyst Agogo in the popular LK Metro strip . They found two 15 year olds and one 16 year dancing naked on stage*. The Children have been removed to a safe location where they will kept until staff can inform the family to come and collect them. The bar has been closed until further notice and the Manager and mumasun have been arrested pending charges.

LK Metro has boomed in the past 3 years with around 10 new Agogo bars opening. These bars are mainly aimed at the local Sexpat market and the long term holiday maker as they are away from Pattaya’s party hub of Walking Street.

Army have begun demolishing illegal bars and dwellings on Cozy Beach!

Cozy Beach clean-up 1, vendors 0!

Officials from Pattaya and Banglamung together with the army have begun demolishing illegal bars and dwellings on Cozy Beach. This land is for public use only. Vendors have also been illegally pruning trees to make space for their now temporary constructions.

The Banglamung District Chief, Mr. Chakorn Kanjawattana, and soldiers from the 14th Military Circle in Chonburi raided the beach area on 1st July in an effort to bring order to the 1-kilometer beach off Kasetsin Road at the foot of Pratamnak Hill.

Cosy BeachThere they found 18 illegal vendors set up along the staircase that you have to use to access the beach, many have been conducting business here for years, some for 30 years! It was also noted that speed boats moored where ever they liked and not in designated areas and there were shacks that had been built over a span of 100 meters on the publically owned land.

This is the latest operation undertaken by the Thai military against encroachment on public land.

Phuket, Phi Phi, Hua Hin and now Pattaya are under scrutiny. Military troops have either come in and cleared illegal properties and vendors or have ordered local authorities to do so in these popular beach locations. This includes the removal of beach umbrellas, deck chairs, Jet Ski operators and all other private business that profits from selling on the public owned beaches and land.

The problem now on many Thai beaches is that there are no umbrellas to shade tourists. In some locations when foreign tourists have taken their own umbrellas and deck chairs to relax in the shade, they have been told to remove them. Maybe a better alternative would be to license vendors and suppliers of umbrellas and deck chairs rather than making them outlaws. Also Jet ski operators could be licensed and made accountable in order to prevent the scams. These draconian measures not only destroy many local family incomes, but will have a notable effect on tourism.

Cozy Beach

Pattaya officials have been told by the military to bring order to publically owned locations, in particular a re-organisation of umbrellas on the Pattaya and Jomtien beaches. It was implied that if the local authorities do not deal with this, the army would. Re-organising also implies that there could be some licensed umbrella vendors, this sounds hopeful at least.

Cozy Beach is a fairly private area with minimal access, so had been left alone for a long time.

However, it looks like the party is over for local vendors there.

What really brought attention to Cozy Beach was the issue of the illegal shacks and residents flushing untreated wastewater into the sea. There is also a serious issue of other waste on the beach too, litter is often cleared here by a local foreign volunteers together with Pattaya City Hall staff, but the litter soon returns. These illegal residents literally s*** in their own back yard, which is not nice considering this is meant to be a 5 star hotel beach destination!

What was apparent also is that although the vendors on the beach complained about their business being ruined, they were quick to point out where all the illegal shacks were and who was involved.

Their ship was clearly sinking! Women and children first? Not in this case!

A Walking Street Go-Go Bar was raided by Region 2 Police Special Investigation Unit Officers in the early hours of Wednesday who allegedly witnessed sexually explicit shows taking place.

The raid took place at Living Doll Showcase Bar and resulted in the arrest of the Bar manager Khun Yupalat aged 45 and three performers who were caught participating in the shows.

A report of the raid will be sent to the Governor of Chonburi Province who may decide to take action in relation to their entertainment license, but for now charges have been brought by Police in relation to the explicit shows.

Pattaya Beach rebuilding postponed indefinitely

City still unable to find enough suitable sand

Reconstruction of Pattaya Beach has been postponed indefinitely after the city again was unable to procure sand to refill and expand the shoreline.

Deputy Mayor Verawat Khakhay said Sept. 3 that the 429.1 million baht project to build up and widen Pattaya Beach to counter years of erosion was supposed to have been completed in December, but has not even started due to the inability to find 400,000 cu. meters of sand that matches that currently on Pattaya Beach.

The city originally had planned to bring sand from a Rayong estuary to an offshore barge in Pattaya, then use smaller equipment to bring the sand to shore and refill the beach and install supporting frames and breakwaters starting from the Dusit Curve southward.

Reconstruction of Pattaya Beach has been postponed indefinitely after the city again was unable to procure sand to refill and expand the shoreline.Reconstruction of Pattaya Beach has been postponed indefinitely after the city again was unable to procure sand to refill and expand the shoreline.

Objections from Rayong provincial officials resulted in Pattaya not being able to obtain enough sand from that source, so it chose a section off of Koh Khram as a new source. However, that sand was found to not match Pattaya’s own sand well enough and now a new source is needed.

Verawat said the Royal Thai Navy also has objected to removing sand from the island it controls, the region’s main breeding ground for endangered Green and Hawksbill sea turtles.

The sand-shortage issue is not new. Verawat first informed the media about the problem in April, but pledged that a new source would be found by May. Four months later, however, a new source still hasn’t been found.

In the interim, work on installation of three new, larger drainage pipelines and their connecting pipes is continuing – admittedly at a slower place than planned meaning construction-related traffic jams on Beach Road will continue.

The 192-million-baht pipeline project calls for new outflow pipes to be installed under Beach Road near the mouth of Walking Street, Soi 6/1 and at a North Pattaya location near the Dusit Curve.

The South Pattaya pipeline is three meters in diameter and 47 meters long. The Soi 6/1 pipe is 2 meters in diameter and runs 1.3 kilometers east from the shoreline, and the third pipe is 1.5 meters in diameter.

Work has hit delays, particularly at Soi 6/1, as contractors ran into the obstacle of underground communication wires and power cables.

Verawat said, however, that the work is continuing with completion anticipated in December.

PATTAYA (Thailand) — Pattaya residents are removing fallen trees, digging out mud and filling more sandbags after tropical depression Vamco lashed Chon Buri and four other provinces declared disaster zones by the government today (Sept 17).

The Interior Ministry said 14 tambons in eight districts in Chanthaburi, Chon Buri, Si Sa Ket, Surin, and Tak have been inundated since Sunday with the heaviest rain and damage coming yesterday.

Minister Anupong Paojinda said the ministry would deploy officials to assist people in flooded areas with transportation and relocation of belongings to high ground.

In Chon Buri, Pattaya City took the brunt of the damage, its much-maligned drainage system completely overrun by hours of rain.

Citywide flooding can reach 30cm deep after just 45 minutes during normal storms. Yesterday’s deluge continued all day and night, leaving most parts of Bang Lamung District under a metre or more of water.

The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department director-general Chatchai Promlert flooding still persisted in parts of Chon Buri this morning, with local officials scrambling to pump out the run-off while residents began digging out.

Social media was inundated with photos and video of the damage, from uprooted palm trees on Pattaya beach to huge chunks of sand washed out to sea by floodwaters that raced downhill from the eastern part of tambon Nong Preu to Pattaya’s Beach Road, which was navigable only by boat as night fell.

On Sukhumvit Road, the under-construction Pattaya Central Road bypass tunnel — which officials assured would not flood once complete — was turned into a huge swimming pool, likely adding a delay to a project already expected to last three years.

The Bangkok-Chon Buri motorway going past Pattaya was also flooded between kilometres 98 and 116. It was the second time this week the motorway was flooded.

Downtown, large potholes opened on Second Road, the city’s main thoroughfare, which had been resurfaced earlier this year.

Bangkok police put Pattaya jet ski vendors on notice

Jet ski vendors were put on notice they are being watched after police rounded up and collected information on nearly six dozen Pattaya Beach operators accused of perpetrating extortion scams against tourists.

The team of officers from Bangkok’s Crime Suppression Division, Marine Police, Tourism Police, Immigration Division, and Pattaya Police Station fanned out across the beachfront Sept. 11, days after the Indian embassy issued a warning to its nationals against renting jet skis in Pattaya. They were joined by Banglamung District and Pattaya city officials.

Jet ski vendors were put on notice they are being watched after police rounded up and collected information on nearly six dozen Pattaya Beach operators accused of perpetrating extortion scams against tourists.

The embassy noted that Pattaya has been plagued for years by vendors who intimidate and extortion huge sums of money out of unsuspecting tourists for contrived damage to jet skis.

“We have been given orders to perform regular inspections on all jet skis in Thailand and also to collect profiles of all jet ski vendors as well as the police involved,” said Pol. Maj. Gen. Akaradech Pimonsri, director of the CSD.

He apparently was referring to long-running complaints that Pattaya police were aiding the extortionists in negotiating a “settlement” of which they would take a cut.

“If any police or vendors are reported extorting tourists, legal prosecutions will take place immediately with no exceptions,” he said.

Police interviewed 58 operators of 127 jet skis, finding eight illegal aliens and three unregistered watercraft. No scam-related arrests were made despite a report by Thai media that police witnessed first-hand two vendors taking 4,000 baht from an Italian tourist.

A major Thai newspaper reported that 30 of the 58 vendors were placed on a “watch list” for criminal behavior.

At a meeting following the inspection, Akaradech said that authorities must wipe out all jet ski vendors who are extorting tourists. Corruption and scams must be tackled in order to secure tourists that Thailand is still safe and pleasant to visit.

New measures will be implemented, not just in Pattaya, but all over Thailand, to arrest and prosecute extorters without excuse, he pledged

Pattaya may miss its tourist arrival projection by 1 million this year largely because of cash-strapped Russians retreating, the Erawan Shrine bombing and the mid-September flooding on the eastern coast.

The Thai resort, one of the world's most-renowned tourist hotspots, is likely to finish the year with 9 million visitors, 1 million fewer than projected and 1.2 million below last year's 10.2 million.

Pattaya Hotel Fires Staffer for Kicking Guest

PATTAYA — The manager of a hotel in the resort town of Pattaya said he has fired a staff member who assaulted a female hotel guest after video of the encounter went viral online.

The video, which surfaced online Saturday, showed a Thai woman arguing with two male staff members in front of The Sun Exclusive Hotel when one of the men kicks her and challenges her to go to the police.

In the video, the men are heard telling the woman she needs to leave her national ID card at the lobby to see a foreigner staying at the hotel. The woman offers to deposit a driving license instead, which the staff refuses, and the heated argument eventually escalates into the assault.

Suwit Wanichprapao, manager of the hotel, said at a news conference today the man who kicked at the woman has been fired.

Speaking to the victim, who asked not to be identified by her real name, Suwit said the hotel does accept driver’s licences and other photo IDs in place of national ID cards.

“However, because there was miscommunication, and because of the lack of knowledge on the staff member’s part and because of his stress, this incident happened,” Suwit said. “I’d like to apologize to her, and to society, on behalf of a tourism business operator.”

He also promised to improve staff training at the hotel to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The woman told reporters she arrived to visit her boyfriend, a Bangladeshi national, but the staff treated her with hostility.

“It saddened me. I was a customer. Why did they welcome me like that?” she said, adding that she would not take any legal action against the hotel or staff because Suwit had apologized.

“But I’d like to tell them: Don’t let this thing happen to any other woman,” she told reporters.

Pattaya, a coastal resort town in the eastern Gulf of Thailand, is well known for its seedy nightlife scenes and sex industry. Many hotels admit sex workers who accompany their customers to their rooms, provided that they deposit ID cards at the reception.

The prevalence of prostitution results in some Thai women with foreign partners being falsely identified as sex workers.

PATTAYA:-- A video which allegedly shows a deckchair vendor forcing a family of foreigners off a beach in Pattaya has gone viral.

The footage, which was widely shared on Monday, shows the vendor telling the foreign family to move from where they were sitting on the beach because they had not rented one of the vendor’s deckchairs.

The actions of the vendor, which have resulted in numerous negative comments on social media, echoed a similar incident in 2014, which involved a Russian tourist and a vendor on a beach in Koh Larn.

During that incident, the vendor was filmed kicking sand and arguing with a Russian woman because she refused to rent a deckchair.

The incident sparked outrage and made headlines around the world, resulting in police investigation and a crackdown on the practices and aggressive tactics used by beach vendors throughout Thailand.

The vendor was later identified as Cambodian man who was arrested for working illegally in Thailand

The incident filmed on Monday is likely to do little to try and improve the image of Pattaya, something which the tourism officials have been eager to do in recent years.

Watch As Demolition of Pattaya Building Goes Horribly Wrong

PATTAYA — A four-story building toppled uncontrollably Thursday afternoon near Pattaya's Walking Street.

The building, located behind the Marine Plaza Hotel, was slated for demolition when it suddenly went down like a house of cards at 12:30pm. No one was injured.
Two shops were damaged and three utility poles crushed.
Witnesses said the company responsible for the demolition, Surasak Antique Pattaya, was hitting the building with a backhoe before it was collapsed. Police said they were looking to speak to the company as part of their investigation.

SOLD COPPER INSTEAD OF GOLD

PATTAYA: Gold shops beware as foreigner and Thai girlfriend pass off copper as gold

PATTAYA: A Pattaya gold shop owner was swindled out of 40,000 baht this week when a foreigner with a Thai girl sold him copper instead of gold.

It was the first time ever that anyone had got the better of Kitti Prasongsuthiporn, owner of the Duan Pen shop in Soi Bua Khao but he hopes that CCTV footage will help track down the thieves.

The couple strolled into the shop last Sunday with the 31 gram ingot and after an initial assessment of its value left the shop.

They returned 30 minutes later when a heat treatment process was carried out on the gold, with an Australian branding, to the satisfaction of all concerned.

Some 40,200 was handed over and the couple went on their way.

It was only two days later when Kitti took all his gold to another shop that it was discovered with more precise testing to be copper with a thick layer of real gold covering.

Kitti said yesterday it was the first time in his career that this had happened to him.

He was surprised that it was a foreigner who had done it and warned other gold shops in the area to be on the lookout.

He reported the matter to Pattaya Police who have the help of a clear image of the couple from CCTV in the shop to help with their inquiries.

Farrang Gone Wild Arrested And Fined For Soi 6 Sexploits

Published on 16th April 2016 by Stickboy BKK

Farrang Gone Wild Fined For His Soi 6 Sexploits

Pattaya’s finest didn’t need any help from Sherlock Holmes in rounding up the farrang gone wild who tarnished the image and reputation of Sin City after he was caught on camera burying his head between the legs of a Soi 6 strumpet during this weeks Songkran celebrations.

American businessman Benjamin “Ben” Bartanyi, 49, was soon named and shamed as the foreigner in The Most Outrageous Songkran Video Ever when the brazen bargirl owned up to police that she was the female star of the most watched clip in Thailand this weekend.

On the advice of an older workmate, the 20-year-old bargirl, identified only as “Miss B”, pleaded innocence laying all the blame at the door of the filthy farrang, telling police she was extremely drunk and unaware of what was going on when Mr Bartanyi parted her pins and went dining at a Soi 6 bar on Friday afternoon in front of hundreds of people celebrating the New Year.

Farrang Gone Wild Fined For His Soi 6 Sexploits

Locals knew who he was and where he was staying and cops were soon chapping at his door at a nearby hotel on Sunday evening where they took Mr Bartanyi down the station to join Miss B so the pair could explain their antics.

After being fingered by half the street, the American not the bargirl, he had no choice but to put his hands up and admit to his drunken sexploits.

Apologies made, innocence declared and the outcome of it all was charges were filed against Bartanyi for indecent exposure in public whilst “Miss B” was cleared of any wrongdoing.

It wasn’t reported how much he was “fined” but i believe the maximum amount for indecent exposure in public is 500 baht and no doubt there would be some compensation for “the victim” too.
