Tropical storm Mujigae has developed into a typhoon at about 4 am on Sunday as it is approaching the eastern side of Hainan island of China with about 140 km/hour strong wind, said Mr Wanchai Sak-udomchai, director-general of Meteorological Department on Sunday.
The typhoon is moving westward at a speed of about 20 km/hour and is expected to hit landfall in Vietnam today or Monday, he said, adding that the typhoon will bring more rains and heavy rains in upper North and northeastern region.
Most parts of the country are cloudy and will have rains today. 70 percent of the areas in the central and eastern regions, 60 percent of the Northeast and 40 percent of the northern region are expected to be lashed by rains from moderate to heavy. In the South, 40 percent of the eastern coast and 30 percent of the western coast will have rains.
In Bangkok and peripherals, widespread rains cover 70 percent of the areas with heavy rains in certain areas.
Meanwhile, the Public Disaster Mitigation Department on Saturday issued a warning of heavy rains and possible flash floods in 32 provinces nationwide as a result of storm Mujigae which has already developed into a typhoon.

Severe Flooding in Southern Thailand Kills 14
Dec 6, 2016, 7:57 AM ET
Residents drive through the flooded streets in the Nakon Si Thammarat province, southern Thailand, Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2016. Severe flooding due to heavy rain in the south over the past six days has killed more than a dozen people and affected 582,345 people in 11 of Thailand's 76 provinces the interior ministry said Tuesday.
Severe flooding due to heavy rain in southern Thailand has killed 14 people, including five students, the interior ministry said Tuesday.
Six days of floods have affected 582,345 people in 11 of Thailand's 76 provinces, the ministry said in a statement.
One person is reportedly missing, while three others suffered injuries.
Trains have also been halted in one province off the Gulf of Thailand as the rails there were submerged under rising floodwaters.
Southern Thailand is a popular destination for visitors due to its scenic islands and beaches, and the floods are expected to put a dent in the area's tourist industry, with the high season running from November to February.
However, the waters are receding, with three of the 11 provinces now off the list of flooded provinces.
A fourth province is expected to be declared clear as well, an official at the interior ministry said.

March 06, 2017
The Thai Meteorological Department said today that summer will officially arrive this week, and residents should prepare to battle the heat.

From tomorrow, upper Thailand will have outbreaks of summer thunderstorms, gusty winds and hail in some areas.
The thunderstorms will hit Bangkok on Wednesday.
The department advised residents to stay safe and indoors due to the severe weather conditions.

Strong storm warning for southern provinces
The Meteorological Department has issued the first storm warning of the year in the southern region, including provinces popular with tourists, while other parts of the country will see cooler temperatures in the days to come.
Downpours and waves up to four metres are expected in the Gulf of Thailand from Thursday, beginning with Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat, Krabi, Trang and Satun. Other provinces in the southern region are set for heavy rain from Friday.
Heavy rain will continue in the South every day through the weekend and the weather bureau advised small boats on the Gulf of Thailand to stay ashore.
The turbulent weather is due to a storm moving towards the Gulf from southern Vietnam, it added. While it is only a depression, storm Pabuk carries heavy rain, according to the Thailand Meteorology Department.
"The storm is moving southwest slowly through the tip of the Indochina peninsula and is expected to reach the lower Gulf of Thailand by Wednesday or Thursday," said the latest TMD bulletin issued late on Tuesday.
"By Thursday and Friday, it will affect the South with more rain and some torrential downpours," the bulletin said.
"All ships should proceed with caution, and small boats should keep ashore through [Saturday] Jan 5."
It said "torrential rainfall" will reach as far north as Petchaburi province in the lower central region.
"Strong winds are forecast for both the Gulf and the Andaman Sea with waves up to four metres high in the Gulf and about two metres in the Andaman Sea."
As the storm approaches the Gulf, PTT Exploration and Production said it is constantly monitoring weather conditions and has removed some staff from its offshore operations to the mainland in Songkhla for safety. But it confirmed normal gas supplies throughout the country.
Other parts of the country, including Bangkok, will see temperatures drop by three Celsius degrees through Thursday, the department said.

Tens of thousands of tourists have fled the Thai resort islands of Koh Phangan and Koh Tao in a mass exodus ahead of Tropical Storm Pabuk which is set to bring heavy rains, wind and seven-metre (22-foot) waves, officials said Thursday.
The islands, hugely popular with holiday-makers especially during the peak Christmas and New Year season, have emptied out since Wednesday as tourists packed onto ferries bound for the southern Thai mainland, with swimming banned and boats set to suspend services.
Pabuk, Thailand’s first tropical storm in the area outside of the monsoon season for around 30 years, is poised to batter Koh Phangan and Koh Tao as well as Koh Samui on Friday night, before cutting into the mainland.
No official evacuation order has been given but tourists are leaving in droves.
“I think the islands are almost empty… between 30,000 to 50,000 have left since the New Year’s Eve countdown parties,” Krikkrai Songthanee, Koh Phangnan district chief, told AFP.
The acting mayor of Koh Tao, one of Southeast Asia’s finest diving spots, said boats to Chumphon on the mainland were crammed with tourists, but several thousand guests were still on the island likely to brave the storm.
Pabuk was packing winds of 104 kilometres per hour (65 mph) but was unlikely to intensify into a full blown typhoon, according to forecasters.
“But we expect waves as high as five or seven metres near the eye of the storm. Normally in the Gulf of Thailand there are only two metre high waves,” Phuwieng Prakammaintara, director general at the Thai Meteorological Department, told reporters.
“It’s difficult to predict the severity of the storm so people should comply with authorities’ recommendations.”
On Koh Samui, the closest of the trio of islands, a Russian man drowned on Wednesday after his family ignored warnings not to go into the sea.
“A family of three went swimming but the strong current caught a 56-year-old man who drowned,” Police Captain Boonnam Srinarat of Samui Police told AFP.
“Island officials anounced the warning and put up the red ‘danger’ flags… but maybe the family did not think the situation was that serious.”
Authorities on the island said they were preparing shelters for any tourists who decide to wait out the storm.
Pabuk, which means a giant catfish in Lao, is also expected to dump heavy rain across the south, including tourist hotspots in the Andaman Sea such as Krabi and the southernmost provinces bordering Malaysia of Pattani, Narathiwat and Yala.
